Spiderman Reboot?

Two years ago I heard that Spiderman 4 was canceled.  Sam Raimey the director, and the entire cast were more or less fired.  Like most of you, this led me to one question that needed to be answered.  Spiderman Reboot, what the f…?

In 2002, Spiderman starring Toby Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Willem Defoe premiered. It was by far the best super hero movie done to date. I’m sorry to all the black-leather X-Men fans, but the fast pace of Spiderman, was a game changer for the super hero movie franchises.  It also came at a time when we all needed some super heroes.

Spiderman was a story that most of us already knew, and to see finally see a live action movie do it right was everything. I loved the 2002 Spiderman, and liked its sequel in 2004, and okay, the third one in 2007 was a little, shall we say… corny, but I still loved the fun ride it took me on.

So this brings me back to the question.  Spiderman Reboot, What the f…?

So... the other night, I went to see ‘The Amazing Spiderman’, and surprisingly it was just that.  It was truly amazing.  So as I watched the movie, the idea that I had just paid good money to basically see the same Spiderman origin story, I saw ten years earlier, went away.  What I discovered I had actually paid for that night, was a chance to see more of that story, and to dig deeper into that world.  In a way you might compare this movie to Titanic.  Many said at first, “I don’t want to see that.  I know how it ends.  The ship sinks.”  Yes… The boy still gets bit by the super-spider, but what happens before and after is much more interesting.  (No you are not going to find spoilers here.)  Let’s just say that Toby Maguire is a great actor and Kirsten Dunst is hot, but I will tell you that Andrew Garfield is Peter Parker, and Emma Stone is really hot.

So let’s be perfectly clear on this, “The movie did not suck.”

I still do like the old movies.  Yes… all three.  Also once you watch The Amazing Spiderman, you will not dislike the old ones either, or maybe you will.  We are all different.  Still, the difference you will see, between new and old, is going seem like you went from 2D to 3D.  Please note, that is just a comparison between new and old.  I do not recommend seeing the 3D version of any movie, except Avatar.  3D always did give me a headache.  I do recommend that you see The Amazing Spiderman.  You will not regret it.  Enoy the movie.

  2. Love this post - and when I first heard Spiderman was being re-done, I was really irritated because I loved the original 3 with Toby Maguire. But I have to admit, once I saw The Amazing Spider-man, I knew they did the right thing and rebooted the series - such a good movie...
